Aftermath was recorded late 2014 and early 2015 in Milwaukie, Oregon. An array of hardware synthesizers were networked, played, and mixed using an Elektron Octatrack, the system wired from scratch and somewhat different each time. Half a session would be spent plugging and programming, with digital recording launched at the first sound (to later be cut in editing). Due to the architecture of the Octatrack all synthesizers were mixed during play, and could only be mastered via laptop after the initial recording (overall compression, equalization, reverb, and limiting). Further mastering was conducted at the end of summer as preparation for this release, including convolution reverb provided by Reason 8. Track selection and ordering was decided over months of regular listening.
All music is built on the shoulder of giants, please take a moment to thank the folks behind the decades of electronics technology and millennia of aural experience that we rely on.
Aftermath was constructed, performed, and mastered with this hardware and software:
Mutable Instruments Shruthi
Moog Slim Phatty
Elektron Octatrack with DR-55 samples from www.dubsounds.com/dr55.htm
Apple MacBook Pro
